14th Annual Russell Run

The Russell Run Club closed off the Great Canadian Hike with the 14th Annual Russell Run. Over 1200 km logged with our 290 participants. We had a blast. Thanks Trans Canada Trail for this fun challenge.

12 runners = 60 more kilometers

We Nailed It! 🔨🏃🍂

Almost 60 runners and 15 volunteers came together to create the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail Challenge—a 72 km journey across our beautiful region. With distances of 25 km, 50 km, and 50 miles (solo and relay), this was truly a community effort.
The weather couldn’t have been better—sunrise to sunset, it was perfect. We’re so grateful to all the participants who let us be part of their journey. For some, it was another medal on the shelf. For others, it was the achievement of a dream they never thought possible.
A huge thank-you to the Hammond Optimist Club, the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail, and especially the Russell Run Club. It wasn’t always smooth—sometimes it felt like we were holding things together with string and tape—but we got everyone to the finish line. The feedback was nothing but praise for the trail, the support, the cheers, and the food.
We’ve already heard a lot of “See you next year!” at the finish line, on social media, and in emails. After one more event, and a bit of rest and reflection, it’ll be back to the drawing board. We had successes, we made mistakes—and we’ll learn from all of it.
Looking ahead, we plan to open registration earlier for both this event and our Chase the Sun. To keep these events alive and growing, we’ll need more runners and more volunteers. You can help ensure their future—share your stories, invite your friends and family, and bring them along next year.

50 km in the books for Day 4 of the Great Canadian Hike

Why we’re participating in the Great Canadian Hike

The Trans Canada Trail is part of our backyard — and part of our adventures. Many of our runs take place on rail trails in this network, including the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail. They’re safe, scenic, and connect us to incredible places right here in Eastern Ontario.

This fall, the Russell Run Club is taking part in the Great Canadian Hike, a nationwide challenge to collectively cover 30,000 kilometres in 30 days. It runs from September 20 to October 19 — the same time as our own Prescott-Russell Trail Challenge — so every step we take locally will help contribute to a national goal.

We’ll be logging our kilometres as a team during group runs, the PR Trail Challenge, and even on our trip to the Petit Train du Nord. It’s a great way to stay active, explore, and support a trail system we use all year long.

You can:

  • Join our team and log your kilometres with us

  • Donate to support the trail

  • Share the challenge with friends and family

Let’s show how much our community can accomplish — for our health, our trails, and the future of the Trans Canada Trail.
