Why I’m Participating in the Great Canadian Hike

Welcome to my fundraising page for the Great Canadian Hike!

When I was young, every year my mom would ask me what I wanted to do for my birthday. And every year I would say "go hiking!".

At 16 years old, I landed a job with my local Parks and Rec Department, and that's when I began to see the power of parks and trails not just for me, but for an entire community.

Now, in my 12th year working at Trans Canada Trail, I have a front-row seat to the impact that trails have across the country, from playtime to sport, from active transportation to the quiet of nature and community connection. They support our physical health, mental wellness, social connections and community resilience.

The Trans Canada Trail stretches across Canada and we support hundreds of groups every year to clean up after climate events, build accessible infrastructure, install new trailheads, share Indigenous culture and teach young people how to maintain their local trails.

It's for these reasons that this fall, I’m joining the Great Canadian Hike, a nationwide challenge where people across Canada will hike, bike, paddle or roll and log their kilometres to collectively reach 30,000 kilometres in 30 days — the length of the Trail from coast to coast to coast.

From September 20 to October 19, I’ll be logging my kilometres and raising funds to support the Trail — for everyone, now and for future generations.
