Joining the Great Canadian Hike isn’t just a great way to explore Canada’s stunning natural landscape. It can also help you level up your fitness routine.
Most of us are constantly trying to get more exercise into our day. But getting to the gym, taking over your living room for an at-home workout, or spending hours on the treadmill isn’t always easy.
A simple solution? Hitting the Trail! The Trans Canada Trail offers nearly 30,000 kilometres of trail for all fitness levels, no gym membership required! Whether you’re aiming to break a sweat or just move your body a bit more every day, the Trail has something for everyone.
HIKING... AND BEYOND
Of course, when most people think of trails, they think of hiking. And that’s a classic choice for a reason! As little as 20 minutes walking or rolling on the trail can have positive impacts on your physical and mental health. That’s right, a hike doesn’t have to be an epic backcountry trek; it can be as simple as doing a loop of your local park.
But there are plenty of other ways to get active on the Trail! Try one of these activities to help you log kilometres towards your distance goal — remember: every activity counts!
PADDLING

Did you know? The Trans Canada Trail includes nearly 7,000 km of water routes. Find a bay, river, lake or cove near you and grab your canoe, kayak or paddle board! Get a full-body workout while you log your kilometres.
RUNNING

You probably already thought of this one! But for many people finding a place to run safely can be a real barrier to getting started. Well-groomed, shaded trails can be the perfect spot for your next PR or to get started on your running journey.
CYCLING

The Trail offers countless ideal paths for cycling — whether you’re a mountain biker searching for your next adventure, a road cyclist looking for a flat stretch separate from car traffic or just commuting to work!
ROLLING

Cycling isn’t the only way to get a workout on wheels! Many stretches of the Trail, offer flat, paved, or well-groomed terrain that makes it easy to log some serious kilometres by wheelchair or mobility device, skateboard, rollerblades, scooter and more!
THE TRAIL IS FOR EVERYONE

Trans Canada Trail is committed to making Canada's trail network more inclusive and barrier-free for all users.
