Meet Our Team: Meggie Carrier

DATE: September 15, 2025

We spoke with Trans Canada Trail staff members about how they're training for the Great Canadian Hike, how they’ve set their kilometre goals and their advice for getting outside and getting moving.

Meet Meggie

Hi! I’m Meggie Carrier, Social Media Coordinator with Trans Canada Trail. It's tough to choose one favourite Trail section, but the Corridor du Littoral in Quebec City holds a special place in my heart, especially at golden hour when the sun hits the St. Lawrence just right. That said, now that I’m based in Montréal, I’m all about the Ville de Montréal Trail. I’m on it every day, biking over to Parc La Fontaine to play a little pétanque after work. Not too shabby!

How did you determine your kilometre goal for the Great Canadian Hike, and what activities will you be doing over the month?

I kept it simple. I picked something that felt doable for a busy September, but still enough to keep me moving. I’m not exactly a “Sporty Spice,” but I do love tracking progress and cheering on others. That alone keeps me motivated. Plus, who doesn’t love a good sunset walk to cap off the day? I’ll be mixing it up with walking and biking.

What’s your strategy for meeting your kilometre goal?

My strategy is plan it like it matters – because it does! I block off time on weekends for longer Trail outings and aim for shorter walks during the week. Little distances add up fast!

What are you most looking forward to during the Great Canadian Hike?

I’m most looking forward to seeing the Trail community light up on socials! There’s something about knowing hundreds of us are out there together across provinces and territories connecting with the land, logging our kilometres and building momentum. I also love discovering new spots through other people’s posts. #TrailInspo anyone?

How did you get started with outdoor activity, and what's one piece of advice you have for newbies?

I started walking regularly and biking during university when I realized waiting for the bus just wasn’t for me. And it just stuck! My advice? Don’t overthink it. Just start. Whether it’s 1K or 10K, every step outside counts. Oh, and bring water. Always bring water!
