Why I’m Participating in the Great Canadian Hike
Growing up in Alberta, the Trans Canada Trail was a part of my life, even when I didn't know it. I only realized this as an adult, but the trail actually passes in front of my grandparent's place on the outskirts of the city. Much like the North Saskatchewan, one gets this sense of the sublime scale of our amazing land when one thinks that this little path runs all the way from coast to coast. We have already lost many ancient trails across this country to the forces of highways, privatization, and neglect. We can't afford to lose this one.
That's why, this fall, I’m joining the Great Canadian Hike, a nationwide challenge where people across Canada will hike, bike, paddle or roll and log their kilometres to collectively reach 30,000 kilometres in 30 days — the length of the Trail from coast to coast to coast.
From September 20 to October 19, my personal goal is to log 300km, or 1% of the whole hike. If you'd like to support the Trans Canada Trail as part of this project, you can sign up to participate yourself, or you can donate to my fundraising page. If you want to walk together, let me know and we can make a team!
Let’s make sure there are accessible paths across this great continent, forever.
