Me, Fable, and the Trail

Over the past six years, this land has given me so much, peace, perspective, and a continued appreciation for not just the land but all the animals who inhabit it. As our time here comes to a close, we’ve  been looking for a meaningful way to honour our experience.

So with my dog Fable Blundell, who just turned one this August, by my side, we’re setting out on a challenge: to walk, run, bike, swim, and paddle 30 kilometres a day for 30 days, 900 kilometres in total. We’ve already been out on the paddleboard together to prepare.

The outdoors has always been me and my families source of peace and strength, and the Trans Canada Trail offers all that and more.

The Great Canadian Hike, is a nationwide challenge where people across the country hike, bike, paddle, or roll to collectively log 30,000 kilometres in 30 days, the full length of the Trail from coast to coast to coast.

From September 20 to October 19, I’ll be logging our kilometres and raising funds to help keep the Trail accessible, safe, and thriving for all of us now and for generations to come.

You can sign up to take part, donate to my fundraising page, or help spread the word by sharing my campaign.

Let’s be part of something meaningful together.

Thank you Kanata,

With love Stephanie and Fable

My Updates

Back to basics

Sunday 10th Aug
This morning, my AirTag pinged my ‘ unknowingly ‘ stolen RadRunner E-bike at an industrial estate eight minutes away. I hopped in an Uber, followed the signal through bushes, and found the bike had likely been hidden overnight and deactivated around 8 a.m. I searched the area, in a rougher side of town, but left when it felt unsafe. While on the phone to the police, I consoled myself with Harvest Wasabi Ranch Snaps and started rethinking my plans.! I’ll fix up my old e-bike for long commutes, lean more on my road bike and walking, and figure out how to keep getting my dog out without exhausting myself before work. Both bikes are moving into my bedroom for now, and I’m waiting on a new bike carrier to rotate between rides. Like all my bikes, the RadRunner wasn’t just transport, it was my adventure buddy, from Salt Spring Island to the Cowichan Valley Trail with my mum, and more recently to the Langley bird sanctuary. Maybe it’s time to get back to basics:>more road biking, fewer easy rides. Sad times, but a little shuffle around should do the trick.

Updates / Main Plan / challenges

Sunday 10th Aug
Goal Update Target: 900 km before October 20, 2025 Start Date: As soon as bike carrier arrives (ETA Aug 17–22) — starting earlier instead of waiting until September 20. Riding & Activity Plan Mix: 30 km ride days + lighter days for work and social plans. Structure: Cluster big rides on weekends. Occasional two-ride weekends. Fridays available for extra rides. Include multi-activity days (kayaking, hiking, paddling, walking). Add-on rides during trip days. Route segments to aim for: Home → Port Moody → Maple Ridge → Chilliwack → Hope Main goal: Fit around summer trips, family visits, and physical recovery so the challenge stays enjoyable. Equipment & Prep Add rides to Strava. Bike carrier arriving Aug 17–22 → Start intro rides with Fabel right away. Buy safety flag for carrier. Get Fabel comfortable in carrier. Quick road bike tune-up (last was a full overhaul). Adjust tires for gravel if needed. Plan for hydration, hot-weather gear, and shade stops for Fabel. Research/rent paddle boards & kayak gear for trip days. Book film developing workshop (switch to colour film). Budget for equipment, overnights, and day trips. Create safety plan for commuting rides (allow extra time with carrier). Map routes in advance; note public transit/taxi backup options. Key Dates Aug 28 – Sep 9: Mum visiting (hiking & paddling early Sept). Sep 3: Moraine Lake kayaking & hiking (booked) Sep 4: Bow River biking & Sundance Canyon (booked) Sep 25: Fabel’s 1st birthday. Oct 9: Sarah’s baby shower (Mum leaves this day). Ride targets: 1 weekend ride before Aug 28. 3 weekend rides after Sep 9. Invite friends to join rides/trips. Kevin returns from Newfoundland bike trip in ~2 weeks. Celebrate milestones (start date, Fabel’s birthday, days with Mum). Organize playlists (main playlist done — need bike-day & motivation playlists). Practice mindfulness & journaling. Consider sponsorship or donation tie-in from work.
