Are you ready to hit the trail, connect with nature and be part of something great? You’ve come to the right place!
The Great Canadian Hike is a nationwide challenge to hike, bike, paddle or roll in support of the Trans Canada Trail — the longest multi-use trail system in the world. By joining this challenge, you are uniting with people across Canada to get active, explore our natural landscape and preserve a truly national treasure that belongs to all of us.
The Trans Canada Trail stretches nearly 30,000 kilometres across Canada, reaching every province and territory, running through mountain ranges, prairies, remote forests and urban centres. It showcases the vast diversity of our country's geography and the Great Canadian Hike is the perfect way to explore it.
Whether you’re a seasoned hiker looking to explore the back country, a novice trying to get some exercise on local trails, or just someone who wants to support Canada’s Trail, this nationwide challenge is for everyone.
HOW IT WORKS
Step 1: Register
Registration is free! Anyone can sign up as an individual or create a team. It only takes a minute to get started, and registration is now open. Get signed up now so you’re ready to hit the trail this fall.
Step 2: Raise Funds
Share your fundraising page with friends, family and colleagues to help protect and maintain the Trail. Fundraising is not mandatory; you can choose to sign up only to contribute kilometres to our goal.
Need help? Our fundraising toolkit includes sample emails, social media posts and other tools to help you hit your goal.
Step 3: Get Active
From September 20 to October 19, you have 30 days to log as many kilometres as possible and contribute to our collective goal of 30,000 kilometres — don’t worry, that’s 30,000 KM as a nation, not on your own!
Can’t get out on the trail yourself? No worries, you can still show your support by donating to the cause or directly to your friends and family.
WHY WE HIKE
Every dollar raised during the Great Canadian Hike helps sustain and grow Canada's iconic trail system – from damage repair to accessibility improvements, from trail extensions to training opportunities. Together, we’re investing in healthier communities, a stronger trail network and a deeper connection to the nature that surrounds us and to our communities.
By taking part in this challenge, you’re also part of a national effort to show that trails matter, for our health, our communities and our connection to nature. Every kilometre you log is a way of showing your community that trails you love are important, and they deserve care and investment.
YOU’RE NOT HIKING ALONE!
When you join the Great Canadian Hike, you’re instantly part of a nationwide community. That community includes us — the dedicated trail lovers at Trans Canada Trail. We are here to offer support however we can!
Not sure how to ask for donations? Need some help recruiting for your team? From tips and templates to social media graphics, we've got you covered every step of the way with our resources page.
