Meet Our Team: Linton Carter

DATE: September 21, 2025

We spoke with Trans Canada Trail staff members about how they're training for the Great Canadian Hike, how they’ve set their kilometre goals and their advice for getting outside and getting moving.

Meet Linton

Hello! I’m Linton Carter, Chief Development Officer with Trans Canada Trail. My favourite Trail section is the Sea to Sky Trail in BC.

How did you determine your kilometre goal for the Great Canadian Hike, and what activities will you be doing over the month?

I first figured out my average daily kilometres and then factored in a major hike each weekend during the Great Canadian Hike time period with a bit of a stretch goal added on. This equalled 200 kilometres.

What’s your strategy for meeting your kilometre goal?

I’m aiming to schedule big hikes every weekend and ensuring I meet my step goal each day (and remembering to link to Strava every time)!

What are you most looking forward to during the Great Canadian Hike?

I’m most excited about the connection to other Canadians as we achieve a goal together and linking my time in nature and being active to meaningful impact on trails. Plus, the fun competition of it all!

How did you get started with outdoor activity, and what's one piece of advice you have for newbies?

I started to run with other moms in my neighbourhood when our kids were small as a way of connection, getting outside and being active. My advice is to get active with others — it is way easier to stay motivated and to encourage each other!
