Why I’m Participating in the Great Canadian Hike

There’s something magical about being on the Trail. The fresh air, the stillness of the trees, and the feeling of connection to nature and community. I’ve always turned to the outdoors for peace, health and perspective — and the Trans Canada Trail offers all that and more.

This fall, I’m joining the Great Canadian Hike, a nationwide challenge where people across Canada will hike, bike, paddle or roll and log their kilometres to collectively reach 30,000 kilometres in 30 days — the length of the Trail from coast to coast to coast.

From September 20 to October 19, I’ll be logging my kilometres and raising funds to help keep the Trail accessible, safe, and thriving — for everyone, now and for future generations.

You can sign up to participate, donate directly to my fundraising page, or share my campaign with your network to help spread the word.

Let’s be part of something great — together.

Getting Started

Tuesday 23rd Sep

I logged my first kilometres three days into the challenge.

If it hadn’t been for signing up for the Great Canadian Hike, the light rain and grey skies on Monday morning would have been the perfect excuse to skip the ride to work. I had already spent the weekend busy with plans, logging exactly zero of the kilometres I had committed to reach over the next 30 days. With the forecast calling for rain almost all week, I kept asking myself, when will I get started?

I looked out the window at the wet pavement, crawled back into bed, and tossed and turned. That little voice in my head got louder: Get up and do it already.

So I did. I pulled on my rain jacket, packed my bag, and stopped making excuses. My first kilometres are done, and that small start felt like a big step.
