About the Walk
Discover one of Calgary's most scenic urban landscapes as you explore the Bow River Pathway with the Great Canadian Hike community. Starting at Eau Claire Plaza we will head out towards the Trans Canada Trail Pavilion. This relaxed 3 km guided walk will follow the river through the heart of the city.
Along the way, hear stories and local insights from our special guest walk leader Dianne Whelan, connect with fellow participants, and experience how the Trans Canada Trail weaves through Calgary's vibrant river valley. Whether you've logged a few kilometres already or are aiming for a new milestone, this is a great chance to add to your Great Canadian Hike total while enjoying an afternoon outdoors.

On July 1, 2015, she set off from St. John’s, Newfoundland to hike, mountain bike, snowshoe, cross-country ski, and, for close to 7,000 kilometres, paddle a canoe across the Trans Canada Trail. For most of it she travelled solo, while simultaneously writing and filming an independent documentary about the experience, titled 500 Days in the Wild, which was released in theatres and on Paramount+ in early 2024. Before turning her attention towards the Trans Canada Trail, she filmed documentaries in the Canadian Arctic and Mount Everest’s base camp.
