Welcome!

Welcome to my Great Canadian Hike page. I'll be using this space to give updates on my progress when the event starts in September.

It seems like we just started summer but really September 20th is right around the corner. I'll be polishing my kayak and tuning up my bike in the next few weeks to make sure I'm ready to log as many kilometres as I can!

Friday 17th Oct
Today I met my goal of 100 kms logged for the Great Canadian Hike!! I'm really excited that I made my goal, a few kilometres a day most days but extra walks, kayak trips and bike rides too. The best thing about the hike was a reminder that I have opportunities in my daily life to add more activity, if we're going to the park or store why not bike instead of driving? I even biked downtown to my weekly club meeting and hope to do it again sometime. The hike isn't over so let's see what I can do this weekend. Thank you to all my donors who've cheered me on and supported a cause I really love!

Montreal!

Friday 17th Oct
For Thanksgiving weekend we met up with friends in Montreal and one of our outings was a walk in Parc du Mont-Royal. More kms logged! We also checked out the part of the TCT that runs through Montreal, lots of bicycles using it.

Our longest hike of the Great Canadian Hike so far

Wednesday 1st Oct
We are a team now! A small team, but it's nice to have someone else working toward a shared kilometre goal with me. Aileen and I walked on a creek trail near our house, for the first time we explored the full length and made it to Lake Ontario and back.  It even crosses the TCT so we took the opportunity to get a photo.

Bike ride

Wednesday 1st Oct
On Saturday I took two of the kids to our local park along the TCT by bike.  It's a beautiful spot for flowers (there were two different wedding parties there getting photos) and also a great spot for wildlife because it's on Lake Ontario and has two ponds.  We've seen a large turtle there before and tons of frogs and birds but today was our first time seeing a tiny baby turtle. I told the kids to not touch him but we also wanted to encourage him to not walk on the path so we gently shooed him back toward the pond. Children's hands for scale, his shell was shorter than my index finger. So cute!

My first official Great Canadian Hike kayak trip

Wednesday 1st Oct
Hello friends,

The Hike has begun! I kicked off my personal Great Canadian Hike with a bike trip to the train to travel to Toronto and bike in the city along a portion of the TCT called the Martin Goodman Trail. It's a lot nicer biking in the city without having to dodge traffic the whole way, so I definitely recommend this path.  I also did my first kayak trip, it was nice to get a chance to see some fall colours coming out!
