Why I’m Participating in the Great Canadian Hike

There’s something magical about being on the Trail. The fresh air, the stillness of the trees, and the feeling of connection to nature and community. I’ve always turned to the outdoors for peace, health and perspective — and the Trans Canada Trail offers all that and more.

This fall, I’m joining the Great Canadian Hike, a nationwide challenge where people across Canada will hike, bike, paddle or roll and log their kilometres to collectively reach 30,000 kilometres in 30 days — the length of the Trail from coast to coast to coast.

From September 20 to October 19, I’ll be logging my kilometres and raising funds to help keep the Trail accessible, safe, and thriving — for everyone, now and for future generations.

You can sign up to participate, donate directly to my fundraising page, or share my campaign with your network to help spread the word.

Let’s be part of something great — together.

Mental health is a walk away

Saturday 11th Oct
Lethargic- that used to be my buzzword a few years back u.til I discovered Edmonton's beautiful trails.

Taking a walk through the trails gives me a kaleidoscope of sensory joys: the playful  shimmering youthful leaves, as they whisper calming murmurs, the sneaky pick-a-boo light rays through the forest, the refeshing glitter of the ever present River Saskatchewan,  the  variety of seasonal flowers that give bright colours under a backdrop of green moss, tall dying  grass or just a mass of dying fall leaves.

I soon realized that when I take a walk, my senses get excited, which in turn disengages my ceaseless  chatty brain.
There are numerous benefits of walking in trails, some of which include bonding with mother nature.  I enjoy a walk with friends and this is also a great time to catch up  with their stories.

So the next time your brain refuses to shut up, take a walk through our beautiful Canadian trails. Mother nature has a great trick up her sleeves that definitely calms the brain, and engages your other senses.
Go ahead, give it a try!
